Browser storage, explained plainly.
Engine Journal uses a small amount of browser storage to keep demo access and interactive features working. This page distinguishes essential storage from optional measurement or advertising technologies.
Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small values a website can ask a browser to send with later requests. Local storage is a browser-only store that is not automatically sent with each request. The current Engine Journal demo primarily uses local storage.
Essential storage
Essential HttpOnly cookies support secure sign-in and short-lived verification-code challenges. Browser-local entries support comment drafts and submissions, helpful votes, DMV progress, calculator choices, and the record of whether you accepted or rejected non-essential technologies. Disabling or clearing these entries may reset features or sign you out.
Analytics and advertising
The current experience does not intentionally load non-essential advertising cookies. If analytics, personalized advertising, or another optional technology is introduced, it will not be treated as essential; the consent interface and this policy will be updated to describe its provider, purpose, and duration.
Your choice
The consent prompt offers “Reject non-essential” and “Accept.” Because no non-essential advertising cookies are currently loaded, either choice leaves the essential site functions available. Your selection is saved locally so the prompt does not appear on every page.
Managing stored data
You can remove this site's cookies and local storage through your browser's privacy or site-data controls. Doing so will also remove the saved consent choice, sign-in session, locally stored comments, and other browser-specific progress. It does not delete the server-side account record.
