How Engine Journal handles information.

Information you provide

Registration uses a username and password. Passwords are stored only as salted cryptographic hashes; the site does not require an email address or email verification. If you post a comment, its text, display name, time, and helpful-vote activity are associated with your account inside that browser.

Account and browser storage

Account records are stored on the server. A secure HttpOnly cookie keeps you signed in, and a short-lived HttpOnly cookie protects each verification-code challenge. Browser local storage is used for comment drafts and submissions, helpful votes, quiz progress, calculator preferences, and your cookie choice.

Technical information

When the site is deployed, hosting infrastructure may process standard request data such as IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamps, and error records to deliver and protect the service. If analytics or advertising services are introduced, this policy and the consent experience will be updated before non-essential tracking is enabled.

How information is used

• Provide sign-in, comments, study progress, and preference features.
• Maintain reliability, diagnose errors, prevent misuse, and improve navigation.
• Understand site performance using aggregated or limited technical information when such measurement is enabled.
• Respond to privacy, correction, or support requests.

Sharing and selling

Engine Journal does not sell account or browser-local information. Technical data may be processed by service providers that host, secure, or operate the site, subject to their contractual and legal obligations. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect users and the service.

Retention and security

Browser-local information remains until you delete it, clear site data, or use an available removal control. Hosting logs, if collected, are retained only as reasonably needed for security and operations. No online system can promise absolute security, so avoid submitting sensitive personal or financial information in comments or demo fields.

Your choices

You can log out, delete your own browser-saved comments where the interface provides that control, reject non-essential storage in the consent prompt, or clear this site's cookies and local storage through browser settings. Clearing the sign-in cookie logs you out but does not delete the server-side account. Depending on your location, applicable law may also provide access, correction, deletion, restriction, or objection rights.

The service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We may revise this policy as features or service providers change; the latest publication date appears above.
