Rules to remember

• Headlights must be on at all times while driving
• Studded tires are permitted from September 16 to April 30
• Moose and wildlife crossing warnings must be heeded - hitting a moose is common
• Chains may be required in certain mountain passes

Before you drive

Alaska requires all drivers to carry minimum liability insurance of 50/100/25. The graduated licensing system requires 40 hours of supervised driving for learners. Special permits may be needed for driving on certain remote roads.
