Virginia is the ONLY state where radar detectors are illegal. Going 20+ mph over the limit or exceeding 85 mph is automatically classified as reckless driving — a criminal misdemeanor, not just a ticket.

Before you drive

Virginia is the only state that bans radar detectors. The state has strict speed enforcement with reckless driving being a criminal offense for excessive speed. Insurance minimums are 25/50/20.
